Nos. 3-4 William Street · Knightsbridge, London
Listed Building Consent for commercial units in Knightsbridge.
Heritage Unlimited provided heritage services for commercial retail units within a Grade II listed building in the Knightsbridge Conservation Area, obtaining the necessary listed building and advertising approvals.
Many of our current commercial and retail units are housed within our historic assets, which can present the retailer with a specific set of challenges when working with the fabric of the building and any constraints it may present. Heritage Unlimited were contacted to support and submit a planning application at William Street in Knightsbridge for a shop fit out involving internal works to ground and basement floors and an associated advertisement consent to the exterior.
The site was a mid-terrace pair of units combined following an extensive refurbishment as part of a larger redevelopment for a range of properties along Knightsbridge and William Street. As such, the units had been stripped back internally to reveal their original brickwork alongside the modern works undertaken during the larger redevelopment. One of the units in this Georgian terrace was a Grade II listed building and the site was within the Albert Gate Conservation Area, named from the grand entrance to Hyde Park, an area closely tied to the history of Hyde Park and its influence on demand and style in the area. The significance of the area and the grade II listing required Heritage Unlimited to complete a comprehensive Heritage Statement and fabric assessment to help inform and confirm the feasibility of the shop fit out which involved a mounted framework system and freestanding units to protect the historic elements of the brickwork.

It was also apparent that the stairs on site between the basement and ground floor would not meet building regulations. Heritage Unlimited obtained and documented evidence that these stairs and surrounding floor structure were of modern material and also provided plans to support the planning application that a new set of stairs could be installed to overcome this without damaging the fabric of the historic structure.
Heritage Unlimited collaborated with a number of consultants on this project and successfully obtained the necessary listed building and advertising approvals required for the client to proceed.
