A Busy Start to 2026 for Heritage Unlimited

March 11, 2026

It has been a busy start to 2026 for Heritage Unlimited. We’re thrilled to welcome our new Heritage Consultant, Zara Hills, to the team. You can learn more about Zara and her expertise on our team page here.

In addition, we’re actively recruiting for another Heritage Consultant to join our growing firm – check out the job advertisement on the IHBC website here.

Amidst these exciting developments in our team, we’ve been engaged on a diverse array of projects across the country. From residential developments to significant historic sites, our work has taken us from the North of England to London and beyond. Notable among these is our involvement with the grade II* listed London Central Mosque, where we’re providing specialist heritage advice to ensure sensitive adaptations that respect its architectural and cultural significance. Other projects include a Heritage Statement for a new residential development in West Yorkshire, discharging a planning condition for works to a listed building in Essex and a historic building recording in Kent but to mention a few.

Each project brings its own unique set of challenges, discoveries, and satisfactions. The challenges often stem from balancing modern requirements with the preservation of historic fabric, navigating tight timelines, interpreting complex planning conditions, or addressing unexpected site constraints like archaeological potential. For instance, in our work on older buildings, we frequently encounter hidden structural issues or layers of historical modifications that require careful unravelling.

Yet these challenges lead to rewarding discoveries. Uncovering forgotten architectural details, such as original mouldings or evidence of past uses, adds depth to our understanding and enriches the final outcomes. One of our most rewarding achievements was the rediscovery of an influential family of flute makers in 18th century London – read our blog here – this discovery enhanced the historical narrative we could present in our reports, turning potential obstacles into opportunities.

The true satisfaction comes from seeing our contributions make a tangible difference: helping clients achieve their goals while safeguarding heritage for future generations. Whether it’s securing planning permissions that allow sympathetic development or advising on energy efficiency in traditional buildings, knowing we’ve played a part in sustainable conservation is immensely fulfilling.

As we look ahead, the team at Heritage Unlimited is energised and optimistic. With our expanded capabilities and a pipeline of fascinating projects, we’re excited about the positive impact we’ll continue to make in the heritage sector. Here’s to a year of meaningful work, new collaborations, and celebrating the stories embedded in our built environment!
