The Role

We are seeking a talented Heritage Consultant who thrives in both autonomous and team-oriented settings, delivering work of the highest calibre. In this pivotal position, you will lead the research and preparation of key documents, including Heritage Statements, Conservation Plans, and Building Recordings. You will engage directly with clients and interdisciplinary consultants, offering strategic insights that shape successful outcomes for heritage-sensitive projects.

This role offers the chance to influence meaningful change in the built and historic environment, contributing to the safeguarding of our nation’s cultural legacy while advancing your career in a stimulating and rewarding field.

Essential Requirements

To excel in this role, you will bring:

  • A degree in building conservation or archaeology, with membership (or eligibility for membership) of the Institute of Historic Building Conservation (IHBC)
  • Solid knowledge of the planning system
  • A firm understanding of architectural design principles
  • Knowledge of repairs and maintenance of listed buildings
  • Desirable: In-depth knowledge of conservation techniques and practices
  • Proven ability to produce high-quality reports under tight deadlines
  • Skill in advising on modifications to listed buildings
  • Proficiency in providing design guidance for new developments in conservation areas or the setting of heritage assets
  • Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ideally based in London or surrounding counties, with flexibility to travel as needed
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
