Sutton Place

Nuneaton, Warwickshire
Grade II Listed Building

Heritage Unlimited were approached by the client to write a Heritage Statement in support of a proposed Padel Tennis Court within the grounds of a grade II listed building. The property is a striking vernacular country house with origins in the 16th century, set in an attractive rural landscape.

To formulate the justification for the scheme, research and map regression were used to identify the historic borders and land usage on and around the property, determining that the site was located outside of the listed curtilage. This was then combined with a site visit to assess the intervisibility of the listed property and the proposal site to form an argument that the proposed court would have no visual impact and cause no harm to significance, thereby preserving the setting of the designated heritage asset.

To aid our understanding of the proposal and design, the consultant also studied the background and regulations of the game of Padel Tennis, which is gaining a growing following in the UK.
