Director

With a rich tapestry of experience spanning the military, public, and private sectors, Paul brings a unique perspective to the field of architectural conservation. His passion for historic architecture was sparked during childhood and later nurtured through academic pursuit. At the University of Leeds, Paul studied module on the Architectural History of the West Riding of Yorkshire, this cemented his ambition to work within the historic environment, gaining a First-Class BA (Hons) in Architectural Conservation from the University of Derby. On completion of his degree, Paul’s professional journey began at an accredited conservation architectural practice in West Yorkshire, where he honed his skills before transitioning to a multinational consulting company that specialised in major infrastructure and engineering projects. His tenure as a conservation officer at Essex County Council enriched his understanding of public sector planning and conservation. Driven by a desire to expand his knowledge of the planning environment, Paul returned to the private sector, working with an Essex-based planning consultancy. Here, his expertise contributed significantly to the successful completion of numerous projects. In 2018, after nearly a decade of diverse roles, Paul founded Heritage Unlimited. His vast experience has equipped him with a profound understanding of the complexities of the UK’s architectural landscape, regional characteristics, and built form. His notable accomplishments include receiving the esteemed Heritage Angel Award for restoring the Grade II listed Todmorden War Memorial. He has also been published in SAVE Britain’s Heritage’s “Dare to Care: Buildings at Risk” for his insightful commentary on Conservation Areas at Risk. Paul’s location near to Letchworth, England’s first Garden City, close to the Hertfordshire/Bedfordshire border provides easy access to projects in London and home counties. Of particular interest to Paul is the challenges of adapting historic buildings to better improve their energy efficiency standards, whilst retaining their historic integrity. This focus is increasingly critical in light of rising energy costs and the challenges posed by climate change. Through Heritage Unlimited, Paul continues to champion the adaptive reuse of our nation’s architectural heritage, providing informative and pragmatic advice for his clients.
